Rational design of the physician payment system, not only can fully reflect the value of physicians’ services and arouse the enthusiasm of physicians, but also can improve the quality and efficiency of medical services, and ensure the safety of patients, and effectively control the health care expenditure. This article reviews the reform of physician payment and the new pay-for-value model of Medicare in the United States, aiming to provide useful references for China to improve the physician payment system.
