Objective: Calculating workforce requirement and workload pressure of community health facilities by applying Workload Indicators for Staff Need (WISN), which was developed by WHO. Methods: WISN approach and tool was employed to implement health workforce planning and management in 5 sampled community health stations of YinChuan and GuYuan City of Ningxia. Results: There is a severe shortage in health workforce as well as different workload among professions in sampled facilities. Conclusion: WISN is a promising and quick spreading approach that could do much help in promoting health planning and management to local health facilities.
