Abstract:In order to have a clear understanding of the contribution of economic development and health investment to maternal and child health, data of Qinghai, Ningxia, Sichuan, and Guizhou P rovince from year 2008 to 2015 in China was analyzed by applying panel-data regression method. Results revealed that both GDP per capital and government investment for maternal and child health had significant effects on maternal mortality rate. Therefore, central and local governments should continue to increase maternal and child health investment while maintaining the sound development of local economy. Also, other potential factors, for instance, public health, infrastructures, and education, should be taken into consideration. And the growth in the maternal and child health investment should be in line with the improvement of local infrastructures, educational level, and quality of healthcare.
